Pilot Workshops

  1. Rainbow
  2. Dreams 2 Reality

Dervish Arts would like to ascertain whether you, or a school(s) in your area, would like to get involved in one of our pilot workshops? There would be no costs for the participants (other than travelling expenses for the Dreams 2 reality workshops) as this would be covered by funding.

At this stage we are undertaking market research to understand whether there is a demand for these kind of workshops and if so how large or small it is.

Dreams 2 Reality

Dreams 2 Reality workshops are intended to counter the threat of radicalisation and to prevent violent extremism. In its current format the focus is on Islamic extremism. These workshops fall under ‘Aspirations for Her’ the Women’s division of Dervish Arts. Dreams to Reality workshops are fundamentally women’s empowerment workshops under the PVE strand and to promote the important contribution that Muslim women make to British society.

The basic structure of these workshops is to;

  • Promote the one day event locally
  • Hold a lecture style session in the morning on the basic principles of Islam and Women and the essential contribution that they have
  • Q&A session
  • Speeches from invited guests i.e. prominent Muslim women locally / nationally
  • In the afternoon split into 3 groups to raise the awareness of;

    o Academia – local education opportunities

    o Career – local career opportunities

    o Community services that might help women / young mums i.e. drama groups, playgroups, child care facilities, support groups etc

Rainbow

Rainbow workshops are intended to counter the threat of radicalisation and to prevent violent extremism. In its current format the focus is on Islamic extremism.

The basic structure of Rainbow is;

  • Identify schools to engage (Muslim and non Muslim)
  • Hold an assembly, at school, inviting relevant guests to talk about their experiences e.g. local community elder, Police, British forces, MP, Fire, Ambulance.

The general aim is to promote the concept that Muslims can, and do, play an active role in British society and are not second class citizens.

• The children would then split into 3 groups to actively demonstrate their understanding of what they have heard and how they have internalised it through;

1. Literacy

2. Creative art, and

3. Drumming

  • The groups would then present back to the wider group their pieces of work.
