is a training and education provider that is focused on bringing down the barriers that exist between communities. We believe we have a tried and tested formula that will begin the journey towards creating harmony of all the varied communities within the UK.

What's the formula? Dialogue through the medium of creative art! Art is an universal language that extends well beyond any national borders.

At our heart is the desire to share the cultural musical experience and to promote;

1. Community cohesion
2. Tolerance, and
3. Shared values

The horrific events of 7/7 and 9/11 highlighted the insidious threat of extremism and radicalisation of certain members of our communities. The Government has supported the need to counter extremism by promoting cohesion across all boundaires faiths,communities and across the nation.

Dervish Arts proactively supports this rhetoric and has developed solutions specifically aimed to promote awareness and pride in oneself, the community and ultimately as a British citizen.

Our speciality extends to three areas;

1. Community Cohesion / Diversity / Citizenship
2. Media production
3. Womens activities to support empowerment

We are very proud to have developed innovative solutions to some of the issues surrounding minority groups in the UK both Muslim and non Muslim alike. For example the ABC's of Cohesion focuses on those elements which we believe will promote tolerance and

understanding of individual values but then also examine these values in context to wider society. It is all too easy, for those who want to, to wave 'the tolerance flag' and espouse love, peace and harmony. These are very commendable attributes for our neighbourhoods. However, the challenge is HOW to create an environment where the above wishes can be made a reality. This is where Dervish Arts really comes into the forefront of leading edge thinking.

At Dervish Arts we are committed to the expression and development of young and mature lives through traditional Islamic creative arts in particular music. Operating on a not for personal profit basis we have a committed team of individuals all with proven track records in their respective fields.

The Challenge - Defining our role in Society

Some might argue that the greatest threat we face as a nation is the insidious threat of extremism predominantly by the Muslim community. At Dervish Arts we would argue that the greater threat comes from complacent communities be they Muslim or non Muslim! By this we mean that as citizens in a democratic society we can either pro-actively engage with Members of Parliament, Police and any other civil body that serves the people or wait until we are told what to do and how to do it. The common sense decision would be to start a dialogue to define our role in society and then act upon it.. There are considerable benefits to this but arguably the main one would be that it comes from a community level where the people within the communities have engaged with one another and defined what they want, expect and also how they can themselves contribute to making their communities a better, safer and more welcoming place to be.

Active in the Community

In short talking about tolerance and a more cohesive society is one thing but doing something to achieve it is something else! One thing is for sure, Dervish Arts is actively engaged in our communities to deliver the ABC's of Cohesion and to make our communitunities a better place to be.
